Best CodexBar alternatives for Mac (2026)
CodexBar is free and covers a broad set of providers. An alternative should solve a missing workflow, not replace a working percentage meter with a paid percentage meter.
Disclosure: We make AI Usage Tracker. We recommend competitors when their documented features better fit the job.

What is actually missing?
Write down the missing feature before you install anything else. A screen-edge display, Windows installer, account launcher and exportable token report are different requirements. One app need not solve all of them.
CodexBar already has widgets, cost scans and a CLI in its current product description. Those are not valid reasons to assume it needs replacing. A provider-specific connection problem may be better solved by repairing the existing sign-in.
AI Usage TrackerOur app
- Best for
- A persistent edge notch alongside local model metrics
- Price
- $9.99 once
- Runs on
- macOS 15+, Apple silicon and Intel
Choose our app when you want Claude, Codex or Cursor rings beside loaded Ollama or LM Studio models. Hover for limits and resets; supported agent sessions can show working or waiting states.
The notch can sit on any screen edge, and separate discovered Claude and Codex profiles get separate rings. For a developer looking at several sessions, that is a reason to pay for a different display.
Trade-off: It costs $9.99 and does not match CodexBar’s provider breadth or Linux offering. Ollama speed capture needs the optional local relay.
SessionWatcher
- Best for
- One commercial tracker across Mac and Windows
- Runs on
- macOS 14+; Windows 10 (2004+) and 11
Its Windows version is a stronger reason to switch than another Mac readout. Choose the plan that covers your providers; multiple accounts require Pro.
This is relevant when the same person uses a Mac laptop and Windows workstation. A shared purchase decision is useful even though not every companion feature is available on both systems.
Trade-off: It is paid after the trial. Reporting costs are estimates, and the mobile companion documented by the vendor is Mac-linked and in beta.
Tally
- Best for
- Managing a fleet of Claude and Codex accounts
- Price
- Free, open source
- Runs on
- macOS
Tally’s repository describes a combined fleet gauge and session launch tools. Look at it when account selection is the problem, rather than just displaying the account you already selected.
A launcher can affect the working environment. Review its profile and shared-harness setup before connecting existing work and personal accounts.
Trade-off: Its more active account and session management is extra scope. Start with a read-only monitor if you only need to see an allowance.
ccusage
- Best for
- Repeatable local token reports
- Price
- Free, open source
- Runs on
- Command line; requires a supported JavaScript runtime
The daily report documentation is useful for a recurring review of which sessions or days consumed tokens. A terminal report is often enough when you inspect usage after the work rather than throughout it.
This can complement CodexBar rather than replace it: one tool answers how much allowance remains, while the report explains the local work already recorded.
Trade-off: Local token totals and estimated model prices do not establish the remaining subscription quota or a provider invoice.
Our recommendation
The default is to stay with a working free tracker. Switch for a capability you can name and verify. Our app is a fit for the edge-notch and local-runtime workflow; SessionWatcher is a fit for Windows; reporting tools can sit alongside either.
A practical way to choose
- Name one requirement CodexBar does not currently satisfy.
- Try the alternative with one provider or profile first.
- Compare fresh account readings before removing your existing tracker.
Questions
Is there a cheaper alternative?
CodexBar is already free. Other free tools offer a different workflow, not a lower price.
Do I need to uninstall CodexBar?
No. Evaluate the new tool first. Running more pollers can add redundant requests, so keep only the ones you use once you decide.
