AI Usage Tracker

Best Usagebar alternatives for Claude Code (2026)

If Usagebar’s context warning is the feature you rely on, a generic quota tracker may be a downgrade. If you only need the account allowance, several free options are worth evaluating.

Disclosure: We make AI Usage Tracker. We recommend competitors when their documented features better fit the job.

Do you need context, quota or history?

These are different jobs. Context is the working material a conversation can carry. Account quota is the allowance before a provider restricts usage. History tells you what the local tools already recorded. Pick a replacement for the measurement you need.

Usagebar’s product page explicitly includes context warnings. We have not established equivalent Claude context warnings in every alternative below. The alternatives are organized by purpose, not treated as identical replacements.

CodexBar

Best for
A free allowance view that can grow beyond Claude

Free, open source
Runs on
macOS 14+; Linux desktop and CLI builds

CodexBar’s Claude documentation explains its usage sources and fallback paths. It is a useful first comparison when you want Claude allowance now and may add another provider later.

It lets you evaluate whether a free display solves the interruption you are trying to avoid. Check data freshness rather than assuming a visible cached bar proves the provider request succeeded.

Trade-off: Do not treat subscription windows or local costs as a drop-in replacement for Usagebar’s session context warning.

A free Claude tier with an optional wider catalog

Claude free; Pro $9.99 once

macOS

The Claude integration page describes free usage and reset tracking. Start there when Claude is your only requirement and a menu-bar view is enough.

A later Pro upgrade adds the broader catalog. There is no need to buy the upgrade before you know you need another provider.

Trade-off: The free tier is Claude-focused. Check current Pro terms for other providers and do not assume context-warning parity.

Our edge notch is useful when usage monitoring is also a task-switching problem. Hover a provider to see its windows; supported sessions can indicate when they are busy or waiting on you.

Used Claude profiles under the documented naming convention can become separate rings at launch. That helps keep work and personal allowances visible without pooling them.

Trade-off: Our app costs $9.99, slightly more than Usagebar, and is not positioned as a replacement for its Claude context warnings.

Use daily reports when you want to see patterns in locally recorded usage. A report can help explain why a long-running session generated substantial token activity.

This can remain a second tool alongside Usagebar. There is little benefit in replacing a useful live signal with a report you only run at the end of the week.

Trade-off: It is a terminal reporting workflow. Estimated costs and local token totals are not official subscription headroom.

Our recommendation

If context is your recurring pain point, keep the app that already warns you. If the only requirement is Claude allowance, evaluate the free products. If you are now watching several providers or agents, a multi-provider notch may be worth a separate purchase.

A practical way to choose

  1. Identify which Usagebar field you check most often.
  2. Verify that field in the candidate app with your own Claude login.
  3. Add a reporting tool only if you will review the reports.

Questions

Are free quota tools automatically less accurate?

No. Price does not determine the provider data source. Compare account identity, source and freshness.

Will an alternative give me more Claude usage?

No. Trackers show readings or estimates. Anthropic controls the allowance.
